iOS 18 looks to be one of the biggest software updates iPhone has ever received, with major upgrades to core apps like Apple Intelligence, Photos, Messages, and Notes, a new Siri, and tons of ways to personalize your device.
But not all features are available on all supported iPhones. iOS 18 can run on a variety of older devices, like the iPhone XS and XR from 2018. But there are certain features that require newer models.
Here are all the iOS 18 features that are exclusive to certain iPhones.
Apple Intelligence

This is the biggest one. Apple Intelligence is one of the biggest additions to iOS 18, but it’s limited to just the following features: iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max. It includes the following features:
That’s right. Even if you buy the current best base model, the iPhone 15, you’ll need to upgrade to access the latest and greatest iOS 18 features.
New Enhanced Siri with ChatGPT Integration

This technically falls under the category of Apple Intelligence, but it’s worth highlighting separately. Even the more powerful and capable Siri in iOS 18, including ChatGPT integration, is limited to: iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max.
Live audio transcription in Notes

Apple Notes got some nice upgrades in iOS 18, including the ability to transcribe your recordings even if you record audio live.
Live audio transcripts can be useful when attending business meetings or classroom lectures, as you no longer need to desperately take notes in such situations. However, not all iOS 18 users can use this feature. iPhone 12 or later.
Hands-free door unlocking

The Home app in iOS 18 supports hands-free unlocking of your doors if you have an Ultra Wideband smart lock (or not). Thanks to the precision provided by Ultra Wideband, it will open automatically, so you don’t have to hold your iPhone up to the door lock.
Apple has started adding ultra-wideband chips to its iPhones. iPhone 11Therefore, older models do not support this feature.
eye tracking

Inspired by the eye-tracking technology of Vision Pro, iOS 18 introduces Accessibility features that let you control your iPhone or iPad entirely with your eyes. iPhone 12 or later Use eye tracking or use an iPhone SE 3rd generation.
Strengthening dialogue in TV programs and movies
Last year, Apple launched a dialogue enhancement feature on Apple TV 4K, making dialogue in TV shows and movies more audible, even when there's loud music or lots of sound effects.
This year, an improved version of this feature is coming to iPhone and iPad via iOS and iPadOS 18, as well as tvOS 18. To take advantage of this feature, you’ll need to: iPhone 11 or later.
Music Haptics
Apple Music hasn’t changed much in iOS 18, but there are a few improvements. One is Music Haptics, which syncs your iPhone’s Taptic Engine with the song you’re playing, providing taps and vibrations that align with the song. This accessibility feature is pretty cool to use, but it’s also iPhone 12 or later.
