Xbox has resolved a widespread outage that prevented players from connecting to Xbox Live, playing online games, downloading games, or using other services for several hours. “Users should no longer be experiencing issues signing in to Xbox Live and services,” Xbox said in a post to X. “Thank you for your patience. Get gaming!”
The Xbox Live issues appear to have started around 2 p.m. ET, with Downdetector reports also starting to ramp up around that time. Around 3 p.m. ET, Xbox said it was “aware that some users have been disconnecting from Xbox Live” and that the company was “investigating.”
Meanwhile, the status page says that Xbox account and profile services are experiencing a significant outage. “You may not be able to sign in to your Xbox profile, you may be disconnected during sign-in, or you may encounter other related issues,” the notice reads. “Features that require sign-in, like most games, apps, and social activities, may not be available.”
At around 4:10 p.m. ET, Xbox said that the investigation was “taking longer than expected” and that the issue had not been resolved by around 9 p.m. ET. The cause of the outage, which lasted several hours, is still unclear. The Verge I reached out to Microsoft for more information but did not immediately hear back.
