PORTLAND, OR (TCD) — A woman found guilty of pushing a three-year-old girl onto railway tracks will spend up to 10 years in a state-run mental hospital.
The Multnomah County District Attorney's Office reported Wednesday, Jan. 31, that 33-year-old Brianna Workman was charged with attempted first-degree assault, third-degree assault, obstructing public transportation, disorderly conduct and recklessly endangering another person.
On Dec. 28, 2022, Workman stood next to a mother and child on the MAX platform at the Gateway Transit Center in northeast Portland.
Workman pushed her 3-year-old onto the MAX track “without provocation.” The girl reportedly fell face first into a metal railing and a rock. But her onlookers “quickly rescued” her from her tracks. The district attorney's office said the girl suffered a “severe headache” and a red spot appeared on her forehead after the incident.
A Multnomah County judge ordered Workman to be under the custody of the Psychiatric Security Review Board and she will be confined at the Oregon State Hospital for up to 10 years.
