DODGE COUNTY, WI (TCN) — A 42-year-old man has been detained on suspicion of using his missing wife's bank accounts to buy cleaning supplies.
The Dodge County Sheriff's Office first reported the disappearance of 37-year-old Crystal Rasch on June 27. According to WISN-TV, the victim's stepmother found her car at the home, but she hasn't been heard from since June 11.
Family and friends reportedly told officials they had received suspicious Facebook messages from Rashi, but did not believe they came from her.
The sheriff’s office said in an update that they investigated Rash’s finances and discovered numerous transactions. Further investigation revealed that the transactions were made without the victim’s estranged husband, Zakaria Rash, who had previously been accused of harassing his wife.
According to a criminal complaint reviewed by WISN, Zachariah Rasch is accused of using his wife’s card to purchase $6,000 worth of items, including gloves, car wash supplies, drain cleaners and carpet cleaners. Security footage reportedly shows him making the purchases alone.
Rash told detectives that he and his wife had separate bank accounts, and initially denied ever taking money from his wife. But when detectives showed Rash surveillance footage, he eventually confessed to using the victim’s card, according to the report.
According to WISN, authorities executed a search warrant at Zachariah Rasch's home and found more than $1,800 in a dresser and $1,300 in his wallet.
Officials arrested him on charges of using a person's personally identifiable information without authorization. He is being held in Dodge County Jail on $250,000 bail.
Crystal Rush's disappearance is still considered a missing person investigation.
