The campaign, led by Universities UK International, was launched again in 2023, 10 years after it was launched, and is dedicated to highlighting the contribution international students make to their local communities and beyond while studying in the UK.
UUKi presents personal stories from students studying across the country, with the final story telling the story of Victoria, an international student who came to the UK through the NCUK domestic route.
Victoria studied the NCUK International Foundation Course at an NCUK Study Center near her home in Peru, and NCUK supported her to study a music degree at Leeds Beckett University, where she is currently in her final year.
Victoria said, “I was surprised at how quickly I adapted, even though I moved to another continent.”
“I learned so much. I don't even realize it myself now, and I wouldn't have gained this perspective without my experience in the UK. I sincerely thank you for giving me the opportunity to study here. I would do it all again in a heartbeat.”
A student ambassador for NCUK and LBU, Victoria now wants to help others in her native Peru follow their dreams.
“I want to share the knowledge I’ve gained with people who don’t have the same opportunities as me,” Victoria said.
“I want to open their eyes to all the exciting possibilities they can experience.”
Victoria's ultimate goal is to return to Peru and build a successful career as a music producer, bringing with her an international perspective and all the knowledge she has gathered in Leeds, the city that has been her home for the past three years.
“It’s vital that we continue to champion the voices of international students and tell the impactful stories of their contributions to the UK. to celebrate their success; It’s about empowering them to share the transformative journeys and experiences they are on,” said Andy Howells, who led the launch of the campaign at UUKi and is now NCUK’s Chief Marketing Officer.
