The response to NBC News' hiring of former Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel has been nothing short of amazing.
From on-air stars like Chuck Todd to members of the NBC News guild, the revolt by NBC employees was loud, public, and justifiably angry.
On Monday night, Rachel Maddow joined the chorus of outrage. In her engaging and impassioned monologue, Maddow first explained exactly what she found unacceptable about McDaniel. Trump activation; support for his attempt to overturn the election; McDaniel's efforts to sow doubt about the results of the 2020 election continued.
Maddow then eviscerated his bosses at NBC for the grave insult they had for hiring McDaniel, imploring them to admit they were wrong and undo this colossal mistake.
You'll want to watch every second of the video below.
It is Ronna Romney who has been at the helm of the Republican Party during Donald Trump's time in office, as he tried to throw out the election results and somehow retain power, and then as he tried to run for president again. McDaniel. And she pitched in and helped. She helped start part of the conspiracy that involved sending fake Trump electors to Congress from states he didn't win. So Republicans in Washington could use fake, fraudulent electoral rolls to claim that Trump may have won that state. Did not do it.
And don't take my word for it. She is listed on pages 23 and 27 of the federal indictment charging Donald Trump with conspiracy to defraud the United States. Her personal image is at the crime scene, the U.S. Department of Justice claims in an ongoing criminal case. In Michigan, where fake electors are currently on trial, she explicitly told the state in writing not to certify the election results. The Detroit News reported that during Donald Trump's phone call with her, she instructed Michigan election officials not to certify her vote. She told them, “Don’t sign. “I’ll get you a lawyer.”
She participated. She was part of the project. And what was that project? The idea was to use the power of the Republican Party (state Republican officials, Washington state Republican officials, and her national Republican Party) to use the power of the party to reject the election results, take over the government, and allow others to seize power. method.
And this project is currently in progress. The project now is to let the American people know that those efforts for the 2020 election were the right ones. That 2020 election was not okay. The results of that election were inaccurate. We shouldn't trust American elections. We should not believe that US elections are real elections. The results of the US election should not be taken as real. They should not be respected.
That's the project now. It didn't work to overthrow the government last time. But as long as you can build on that first effort, as long as you can maintain the anti-election myth, then you are priming the people and priming the American people. The public will also not accept the results of the next election. You are telling them that they must seize power by other means. Because that's not how we do elections anymore. You are also, quite frankly, preparing people to vote to give up the democracy we think we have. Because what good does it do one way or the other? So what do we actually lose if we decide to lose this? Who cares? Anyway, the election here is fraudulent. Who cares if we give up on them?
Ronna McDaniel has been arguing about this too, and has been saying since 2020 that the election wasn't right and that the American public needs to know that the votes weren't real, and that's not only a message for 2020, but a message for this. It is also a message. Next election. And we talk about whether elections should matter at all and whether we should even have them.
So I want to stand with all of my colleagues at MSNBC and NBC News who have spoken out loud and principled in their opposition to our company paying salaries. Not only has he attacked us as journalists, but there is a project underway to destroy our system of government. This is someone who is still trying to convince Americans that this election didn't actually work and that the last election wasn't a real result. US elections are fraudulent.
Because that argument is a necessary part, a most necessary part, of the whole project of getting us as Americans to give up on this election issue. After all, wouldn't it be better to have someone in real charge – someone who can actually get things done? If only we could get rid of it all His way.
We have a long history of forgotten people in this country saying we need a new system of government where everything is under their control and politics is over and this new dictator's way of government will make America great again. We had many people like this.
But our generation's version of this guy is so much more advanced than every other generation. Why? She would have given her help if he could not have been affiliated with an institution like the Republican Party and the leader of that party at the time had not decided that she would support him. She will help you even in the worst case.
MSNBC executives did not oppose Ronna McDaniel being hired by NBC News when the issue first arose, but when the hiring was announced and MSNBC employees immediately expressed their outrage, essentially unanimously, MSNBC's executives heard us, understood us, and made adjustments. course. We were told in no uncertain terms that Ronna McDaniel would not be on the air this weekend. Ronna McDaniel says she doesn't appear on MSNBC. And the reason I say that and give you that level of detail is because there was an effort in other parts of the company to spin this to the media and make it seem like it didn't happen at MSNBC. I'm pretty sure this is what happened at MSNBC. Ronna McDaniel won't be appearing on MSNBC starting Saturday, her boss said. And it was never anything other than obvious.
And also, if you're interested in what I think about this, let me tell you that Mr. McDaniel is on the payroll of NBC News. To me, it's inexplicable. You won't do that. You wouldn't hire a smart person, you wouldn't hire someone set up like the mafia to work in the DA's office, right? You wouldn't hire a pickpocket to work as a TSA screener.
So I find the decision to include her on the payroll inexplicable. And I hope they reverse their decision. And it's not about Democrats or Republicans. It's not about partisanship. It's not a question of right versus left. This isn't a question of being a political expert versus another kind of person. It's not about being mean or nice to reporters. It's not just about Donald Trump and his era and the Republican Party. It's not a question of whether to lie or not.
It's about undermining our systems of government and elections and pursuing democracy as an ongoing project. Yes? And these are difficult times for us as a country. I think this means we need to have a clear view of what it means. Difficult times force us to make difficult decisions. We are fighting something we have never fought before. In the news business, yes. We're always covering elections. But we are also dealing with bad actors who seek to use the rights and privileges of democracy to end it. Now the biggest threat among them is not the rioters or the freaks, but the laundering of violent, revolutionary claims that America's elections are not real, the election results are not real, the election results are not real, the election results are not real. A cunning political expert who is using his considerable talents to… be respected
We are fighting this problem now. Rather than fighting William Dudley Pelley's brownshirt militia, we are fighting a massive, multibillion-dollar political operation by one of America's two ruling parties. And that's new.
And I think that when our country is faced with something scary and dangerous that poses a threat to the country, bad decisions will inevitably happen. There will be mistakes. But part of our resilience as a democracy is recognizing when decisions are bad. And reverse that bad decision. It's about listening to legitimate criticism, responding to it, and correcting course. I don't dig in and I don't blame others.
Take a moment. Admit that maybe it wasn't the right call. Admitting when you are wrong is a sign of strength, not weakness. It is a sign of strength. And our country needs to become stronger right now.
I'll be back soon.
