MORRISVALE, VA (TCD) — A 49-year-old mother has been charged with the death of her 14-year-old daughter, who was found dead in the bathroom of her home last week.
According to the Boone County Sheriff's Office.On the morning of Wednesday, April 17, deputies responded to Cameo Road in reference to a teenage girl found dead in cardiac arrest. Complaint reviewed by West Virginia Metro News It says the girl's “physical appearance was shocking with her apparent emaciated and skeletal condition.”
The sheriff's office said investigators believe the victim suffered from an undiagnosed eating disorder but had not received any treatment for the past four years.
According to West Virginia Metro News, the victim's grandmother told investigators that the girl had not eaten in months and that her physical health had deteriorated to the point where she was unable to perform daily tasks on her own. Her grandmother also said the teen had not been to school since around 2019 or 2020 and that she had not left her home often for the past four years. The sheriff's office said they believe the victim was homeschooled.
The National Forensic Service coroner will conduct an autopsy.
Authorities arrested the child's mother, Julie Miller, on suspicion of child neglect resulting in death. The investigation is ongoing and additional charges may apply.
Miller is still trapped. West Virginia Regional Jail Bail set at $250,000.
Metro News reports that investigators referred to the victim as KM in the complaint and wrote, “Due to the overwhelming visibility of KM's physical condition and the clear and distinct physical problems, Miller has not received any medical treatment for KM for at least the past four years.” .”
