Well, this won't go over well with the Trump crowd. Next week's cover of The New Yorker will feature an illustration by John Cuneo of Donald J. Trump with his tiny hands ready to be handcuffed.

Even though the Justice Department is indicting the son of a sitting president, MAGA is already screaming and wailing that this verdict was rigged, so I bet they won't be able to tolerate even mild ridicule over their leader's conviction.
But from a political perspective, Donald Trump cannot win 2024 with his MAGA base alone. And once the mockery reaches a certain level of national acceptance, it tends to stick to the candidate, fair or not (which is certainly fair). Polls have already shown that a guilty verdict could be costly for Trump.
Trump also faces three other trials. An election incident in Georgia in which he tried to reverse his defeat in that state by pressuring people to vote for him, an effort to keep him in power after the 2020 election, and a federal Jan. 6 incident alleging his incitement. A third incident occurred in Florida following the deadly attack on the U.S. Capitol and the alleged theft and sharing of highly sensitive documents.
This sign is one of many showing the former president and presumptive Republican presidential candidate in handcuffs. The Republican Party decided to side with the felon, handing control of the party over to him and his family and pressuring candidates to support him. Now Trump felon is their brand.
