Sears Holdings, which owns retailers Sears and Kmart, said it would remove 31 Trump-branded products from its website this weekend.
Sears spokesman Brian Hanover told Reuters the product was withdrawn as part of a plan to focus on “the most profitable items.”
Hanover told the news organization that items from the Trump Home Furniture line have been removed from the company's website but can still be purchased online through third-party vendors. Neither store carries the items in a physical store, he said.
The Sears and KMart websites did not turn up any Trump Home products, except for those sold by third-party suppliers.
In a statement Monday, spokesman Chris Brathwaite reiterated that Sears distanced itself from the political controversy and that many Trump-branded products are still available through third-party sellers.
“In this case, certain products were removed from our website, including a very small number of Trump products,” he said. “The headline does not define our business or the specific product brands we offer through our marketplace sellers.”
Brathwaite added that the company prefers to focus on business and “leave the politics to others.”
