As I write this, I am visiting friends here in San Miguel de Allende. Every time I visit this beautiful colonial city, located about a three-hour drive from Mexico City, I am reminded of Toller Cranston, the charismatic artist and Olympic champion figure skater, when my husband and I first visited this beautiful colonial city in late fall. Here is my story about that visit.
That was almost 14 years ago, and it's now almost 10 years since the Canadian legend passed away in January 2015.
Toller's sister Phillippa Cranston Baran's recently published book, Toller Cranston: Ice, Paint, Passion, is a stunning tribute to the Olympic champion and pioneer who elevated men's figure skating into a breathtaking new art form. The book chronicles his fascinating journey as a visionary, his works (at least 20,000 paintings displayed in exhibitions around the world), TV specials (my husband John Dimon was a CBC producer on the award-winning Strawberry Ice) and much more.
Toller Cranston: Ice, paint, passion. It's not just electricity. It is a celebration of an amazing life that transcends boundaries. A testament to the enduring legacy of Toller Cranston, a true icon.
The book is available through the publisher, Southerland House Books.
