Best rides in animal kingdom
Avatar Flight of Passage – Best ride overall
- category: simulator ride
- Height Requirements: 44 inches (112 cm)
- tip: We recommend booking your Genie+ early or using the individual Lightning Lane option!
This is truly the best ride in Animal Kingdom and in my opinion the best ride in Disney World. Avatar, Flight of Passage is unlike any other ride I have ever been on. You can experience the feeling of flying over Pandora on a banshee (the one your avatar rides in the movie) through a 3D screening experience.
Now, it's important to secure a Lightning Lane reservation as the lines for this ride can get incredibly long. Learn more about Lightning Lane here.
Kilimanjaro Safaris – Best rides for the whole family
- category: Safari Ride
- Height Requirements: doesn't exist
- tip: In active animals, it is best experienced in the morning or late afternoon.
You would never have imagined that you would be riding a theme park ride with real animals outside your window. But the Kilimanjaro Safari ride will give you just that. A safari truck takes you on an adventure into the “wilderness” where you can see anything from zebras to lions to hippos.
Your guide will give you a bit of background to ensure you can truly enjoy the ride. Remember, these are real animals. Therefore, as at the zoo, it is best to see them early in the morning or at dusk. Especially in the Florida heat, many animals take a midday nap. It's a truly different experience each time you ride this ride, so it's worth a visit every time you return to the park.
kali river rapids – Epic water ride
- category: river rafting
- Height Requirements: 97 cm (38 inches)
- tip: Get on early to dry all day.
The River Rapid rides are always a blast, and while this attraction isn't very unique, it still has a little Disney Magic that makes it better than any other Rapid ride.
It's best to ride this ride on a hot Florida day as you may get wet. If you have young children who can't ride, make sure to take advantage of the elephant dip to help soak the rest of your group.
Expedition Everest – The ultimate thrill ride
- category: Roller Coaster
- Height Requirements: 44 inches (112 cm)
- tip: We recommend Genie+. Do not ride immediately after eating.
You may never reach the actual summit of Everest (I never will), but you can't miss this thrilling journey to the top of a dangerous mountain in the animal kingdom. You will take a fast train through the Himalayas to escape the Abominable Snowman.
One of the coolest things about this ride is that the line itself is an experience. You will get to know what Everest Base Camp really looks like. Once you board the ride, you'll experience the classic fast-paced roller thrills with twists and turns in all directions, including backwards. We hope you will be one of the lucky ones who gets to pass by the Giant Yeti! The drop on this ride is pretty great and the feeling of racing backwards down the track always gets me.
Dinosaur – Last chance to ride it!
Disney has officially announced that Dinosaurs will soon be closing to make way for a new attraction. If this is one of your favorites, plan one last ride!
Dinosaurs may be a little older than most of the dinosaurs at this park, but this classic Animal Kingdom ride tells a great, time-tested story while mixing in some thrills. You go on a journey in a time rover car to save the iguanadon from extinction due to a meteor shower.
Even though my daughter is always nervous before going on it, it is her favorite ride. By the way, they have one of the best photo spots in the park!
Na'vi River Journey – Most Overrated Ride
- category: slow boat ride
- Height Requirements: doesn't exist
- tip: Take advantage of Genie+ to reduce waiting time.
Another ride on Pandora is the Na'vi River Journey. You can take a boat ride and see the stunning scenery that appears in the movie. You'll board a reed boat and drift through caves and glittering landscapes. It's all about music, and by the end of your trip you'll meet the Na'vi Songs Shaman himself.
The ride is ok in my opinion so don't wait in line for too long for this tour.
Best rides for kids
If you have a little one under 40 inches, there's still plenty to do in the animal kingdom. Here are some rides and attractions you should check out with your kids.
- Triceratops Spin
- Kilimanjaro Safari

- Love section
- Flying feather friends!
