Take a peek at what medical wellness tourism will look like in 2030
Dr. Ron Capp
Close your eyes and imagine the future of healthcare. Go to a wellness resort/retreat for relaxation and recovery. Your blood, urine, genetic profile and even up-to-date biological age analysis are all completed before your arrival.
Our staff eagerly awaits your arrival. You've been going there twice a year for the past ten years for medical tune-ups. They know you just as you know yourself. (Much better than your mechanic knows your car.)
First, meet with your personal coach to review how you've been doing over the past six months. You have attended the latest lecture on 'Science of Life Development'. You then spend an hour or two with your personal trainer to review and update your personalized exercise routine. Spend lunch time with the resident chef and your family will sample his latest and greatest healthy nutrition masterpieces.

After a leisurely meal, you'll meet with your personal psychologist to practice new meditations, discuss rituals, and review how you've been “living in the moment.”
The next day, after your early morning exercise routine, eat a healthy, nutritious breakfast. You've also been given a lesson on how to prepare such a great first meal of the day.
I see the doctor a little later. This person is not an ordinary doctor, but a doctor who majored in functional medicine and integrative medicine. In other words, we are experts in preventive medicine who are always at the forefront of the latest and greatest scientific discoveries. A two-person team reviews medical data and laboratory tests together.
Your resort doctor knows you well and takes as much time as necessary to answer all your questions and concerns and serve as your medical guide. This doctor isn't typing on a computer while you talk, he's just listening, thinking, and practicing medical techniques. This doctor has already reviewed reports from coaches, trainers, psychologists and even chefs.
That afternoon, you met the ‘Energy Healer’. A trained herbalist and acupuncturist specializing in nutritional supplements, new age meditation, and quantum healing therapies. The latest science in complementary healing therapies is at your fingertips.
To end the afternoon, I see my “personal therapist.” An expert in Far Eastern and ancient healing practices – you will receive a full-body assessment of how you are doing and what you need to do to get better.

Earlier that evening, a Western-trained doctor and an Eastern-trained therapist lecture on the latest research on health and longevity. Lessons are tailored to that week's group participants and are recorded so you can view and review them even after you return home.
But who really wants to go home? You want a few more days of relaxation, rejuvenation, and wellness protocols designed personally for you and your period. In addition to all this, the wellness resort/retreat has unexplored hiking trails, charming yet secluded outdoor hot springs, and swimming pools that tempt you to experience meditative tranquility. Additionally, the nighttime environment is conducive to deep, restful, and energizing sleep.
Your multi-day wellness retreat has been documented, cataloged for future review (if needed), and provided to help you continue your journey toward health, optimal wellness, and improved longevity. You will then receive a customized report documenting your unique genome, epigenome, microbiome, proteome, and even metabolome. Now that we can track everything, we can track not only a person's current level of wellness as they age, but also how much they have improved since starting their wellness journey.

This model of preventative medicine and wellness does not occur in today's large hospital systems or in the small, private practices where most health care services are now delivered. No, this can only happen where the ecological environment is healing, nature is abundant and the most caring and empathetic teams are 100% aligned with prevention, health and longevity as their main goals. And where you remain a priority, there are endless opportunities to learn, follow, and practice science to hone your health skills, no longer an assembly line of 15-minute visits, but under the watchful eye of people who care. .
This is what I personally envision as medical wellness tourism. This is the paradigm shift towards “responsible well-being” that we must strive for.
