I think Vienna is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. The city's historic center is a huge UNESCO heritage site, filled with amazing museums, beautiful galleries and sprawling Baroque palaces.
This city is a history lover's dream, and there is so much more to see and do here. There's an incredible cafe culture, nearby wine country, tons of amazing restaurants, great live music (including world-class opera), and more.
I have been coming here for many years and never tire of visiting. (I love this city so much that I used to take tours here!)
Naturally, I stayed in numerous hotels during my visit. Here is a list of the best hotels in Vienna:
1. Hotel-Pension Wild
This 2-star hotel is one of the few budget accommodations in the city centre. Simple but bright rooms feature comfortable beds, plenty of space, and large windows that let in lots of natural light. Although the design is a bit dated (the carpeted rooms don't look particularly stylish), everything is clean and functional. Rooms are equipped with basic amenities including a flat-screen TV, desk and free WiFi. The bathroom is quite small but clean and the shower pressure is good. The hotel offers a generous continental breakfast, and the owners are friendly and warm. If you're on a budget, small, simple single rooms with shared bathrooms are also available.
2. Hotel address
This boutique 4-star hotel offers small, clean rooms with décor reminiscent of Vienna's imperial past. The rooms are brightly lit and feature many antique touches such as wooden desks, tables and upholstered armchairs. Rooms also include free WiFi, a flat-screen TV and coffee/tea makers. The bathroom is not particularly stylish (the tiles are a bit unsightly) but is very spacious and the water pressure in the shower is excellent. The breakfast, which may be included in the price, is very varied, including a variety of fresh breads and cheeses.
Located in the city centre, I think this is one of the best value places to stay if you want to be in the heart of everything.
3. Hotel Mozart
One of the few hotels near Rossau (northwest of the city), this affordable 3-star hotel offers spacious rooms with lots of natural light. The spacious rooms are decorated in bright colors and have hardwood or parquet floors. There are also many other wooden decorations, such as desks/tables and large wooden headboards. Free WiFi, a flat-screen TV and air conditioning (a must if you're visiting in the summer) are included. Some rooms have a coffee machine. The hotel offers a rich breakfast each morning, including fresh fruit and pastries. There is also a bar on site and staff are always happy to share tips and advice.
4. Hotel Johann Strauss
This stylish 4-star hotel in the Wieden district is named after the 19th-century Austrian composer. The hotel is housed in a completely renovated historic Art Nouveau building, with rooms featuring plenty of natural light and a soft, welcoming color palette. Rooms are equipped with a flat-screen TV, minibar, coffee/tea maker, desk and sofa. I really like how there is a lot of art around the property, including in the rooms (much of it is music-centric, of course). The tiled bathroom is huge with lots of light and good water pressure. I especially like how large and varied the breakfast buffet is. The staff are also very friendly and happy to help you make the most of your stay.
5. Hotel Am Konzerthaus Vienna
Located on Landstrasse near the iconic Belvedere Palace, this luxurious 4-star hotel feels like a 5-star property. It has a stylish lobby and spacious, bright rooms with very comfortable beds. Everything is fashionable and trendy, with lots of rich colors in a dark palette. The spacious bathrooms are dark tiled, bright and feature plush bathrobes and comfortable rain showers. Rooms also include a flat-screen TV, desk and coffee/tea makers. The breakfast buffet is large and has a lot of choice, but I especially like that the on-site restaurant has a Michelin star (a surprisingly modern take on traditional Austrian dishes).
This hotel is the perfect choice for travelers who want luxury without breaking the bank.
6. The Ritz-Carlton Vienna
This is arguably the nicest hotel in town. This five-star hotel in the heart of the city is spread across four historic palaces (yes, actual palaces). The hotel has a palatial feel, but its décor is understated with a stylish minimalist design (think lots of white spaces with touches of color or artwork). The marble bathroom is huge and the shower has perfect water pressure. The rooms are also spacious, with large comfortable beds (desk, air conditioning, sofa and electric kettle).
A huge breakfast buffet is served every morning and a complimentary glass of champagne upon check-in. The hotel also has a swimming pool with underwater music, a fitness centre, sauna, steam room and three spas on site. Simply put, it is the pinnacle of urban luxury and a great choice for travelers looking for an elegant stay.
Vienna is a beautiful city. I always love coming here. It may be expensive, but you can definitely get great value by staying at one of the hotels above, whether you're staying on a budget or looking for a luxury stay.
