LOS PRENOS, Texas (TCD) — Police arrested a 42-year-old man over the weekend on suspicion of strangling his girlfriend after she broke off their relationship.
On Sunday, April 14, at approximately 2:30 p.m., Cameron County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a home in the 32000 block of Ebony Road after neighbors heard a woman screaming for help. After speaking with the 53-year-old victim at the scene, police found obvious signs of assault.
The victim told investigators she broke up with Rolando Juarez, 42, after being together for four years. Juarez became angry and as she was driving home, he allegedly punched the woman in the face. The victim told deputies that upon arriving at his home, Juarez strangled him to death. Juarez reportedly took the woman's cell phone out of her back pocket and eventually pushed her to the ground. She said Juarez also pushed her head to the ground, causing an injury to her forehead.
The victim is filing criminal charges against her ex-boyfriend.
Police arrested Juarez and booked him into the Cameron County Jail on suspicion of assault by impairing breathing/circulation. He is being held on $20,000 bond.
