BRYANT, Ark. (TCD) — A 33-year-old teacher recently pleaded guilty to having sex with a minor on multiple occasions, including during an out-of-state field trip.
Jonathan Ross, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas, announced on Monday, January 22 that former Bryant High School teacher Heather Hare pleaded guilty to transporting a minor across state lines for the purpose of unlawful sexual conduct. . Hare was arraigned on Aug. 1, 2023. She was charged with interstate/international travel and prostitution/sexual conduct by force, but those charges were dismissed as part of Hare's plea deal.
It is known that Mr. Hare, who taught a family and consumer science class, met the minor victim in his senior year and began providing one-on-one counseling. The attorney's office said Hare provided his personal phone number and communicated with him primarily through Instagram and Snapchat.
Hare reportedly told a high school senior, “I dreamed they were having sex.” According to the attorney's office, Hare provided the minor victim with his home address, and the two had sexual intercourse approximately 20 to 30 times during the 2021-2022 school year. Prosecutors said they engaged in sexual activity at Hare's Conway home, in her car and even in her classroom and the parking lot of Bryant High School.
According to the attorney's office, Hare pleaded guilty to having sexual intercourse with the male victim during a field trip to Washington, D.C., in April 2022 as part of a class he was teaching. It is reported that the victim was the only male who participated in the field trip that included four students.
“This former teacher took advantage of his trust and the minor’s vulnerability to entice and entice this minor to engage in unlawful sexual conduct,” Ross said in a statement.
Hare is scheduled to be sentenced at a later date and faces a minimum of 10 years to life in prison, as well as a minimum of five years of supervised release.
