LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Police Department on Wednesday promised better security after a high-rise luxury condo tower under construction near the Lakers' home stadium was plastered with graffiti.
Helicopter video taken by NBC Los Angeles has been released showing a tag attached to about the 30th floor of a 40-story tower in downtown LA.
In a separate video, the LAPD Central Bureau said on social media platform
“This action will be implemented immediately and the graffiti will be removed,” LAPD said.
The project is located across from Crypto.com Arena, home of the Los Angeles Lakers. Also near the currently tagged tower is the LA Live entertainment area.
According to its website, the Oceanwide Plaza project was to have two 40-story towers.
Construction was halted in 2019 due to questions about whether the company had the funds to continue, the Los Angeles Times reported at the time.
The real estate publication The Real Deal reported in August that a possible foreclosure had been blocked by a state appeals court.
It's far from the first project in Los Angeles to be the subject of attention-grabbing graffiti.
Downtown's new 6th Avenue overpass, which cost $588 million, was spray-painted by vandals after it opened in July 2022. Street racing and takeovers also caused the bridge to periodically close shortly after opening, NBC Los Angeles reported. At that time.
