Summer McIntosh, 16, broke the 400m individual medley world record just days after breaking the 400m freestyle world record at the Canadian Swimming Trials last Saturday.
McIntosh recorded a time of 4:25.87 in the 400m individual medley, breaking the record of 4:26.36 set by Hungarian swimmer Katinka Hosszú at Rio 2016.
The result continues a stellar week for the teenager after breaking the 400m freestyle world record last Tuesday. The time of 3:56.08 broke the previous record of 3:56.40 set by defending Olympic champion Arianne Titmus last May.
McIntosh shared his feelings after his latest win.
“This is the first time I’ve heard the crowd live during a race,” McIntosh said, according to Reuters.
“It’s amazing to have my family and friends all in the stands cheering me on. “It really helped me in the last 100m.”
The Canadian teenager made her Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020 at the age of 14, finishing fourth in the 200m freestyle.
She won gold medals in the 200m butterfly and 400m medley at the 2022 World Championships, and two gold medals in the 200m and 400m medley at the Commonwealth Games.
She currently trains in Florida under Coach Brent Arckey of the Sarasota Sharks.
