As you read this, your phone is dying. Just like milk, bicycle helmets, and condoms, cell phones are sold with expiration dates built into them.
Most are supported for 3-4 years, although on the lower end we're only talking about 2 years. It's not because your hardware will break (although that could happen). It's all about how long the manufacturer provides support.
Learn how to check your phone's expiration date and get tips for using your phone for as long as possible.

What is your phone number?
It's important to know the date of manufacture because your phone's lifespan clock starts running from the date of manufacture, not the date of purchase. Here's how to find out:
- Look around: The manufacturing date is often listed on the package. If you threw it away, check the date or serial number in the “About” section of your phone's settings.
- Serial Number: Many manufacturers encode the date of manufacture within these numbers. The SNDeepInfo site can help you decode your site.
- Dial secret code: Manufacturing information can be found through special codes and menus. dialing *#06# Your phone's serial number may be displayed.
Yes. I know. This seems like too much work.

Instead of following the steps above, go to endoflife.date. This handy site lists the end-of-life (EOL) dates for devices, software programs, and other products. Some quick links to check your phone's EOL:
The links below are not for mobile phones, but we recommend checking the EOL for other technologies.
This is a good site to check out. before Buy used technology. Do not purchase if the EOL date is approaching soon.
this is serious
Using technology past its EOL date is a bad idea for several reasons.
- No important updates: Sure, you won't get the latest features, but more importantly, you won't get any new security updates either.
- Hackers Love You: Cybercriminals can much more easily break into older technology and exploit unfixed bugs and security issues. We're talking about unauthorized access to your bank accounts, health data, and even the voice of your calls and voicemails on your phone.
- Bad battery life: As your phone ages, battery performance deteriorates because lithium-ion batteries lose capacity over time.
- Take your time: Older phones struggle to run the latest apps and operating systems.

So how do you make it last for its entire lifespan?
Maybe you've been on your phone for a year and think this can't last four years. All it takes is a little bit of maintenance.
Stay updated: Updates can not only keep your device running smoothly and safely from bugs, but can also speed it up in terms of performance. For iPhone, go to: setting > Normally > software update. On Android it's below. setting > phone information > Check for updates.
replacing batteries: This is one of the most effective upgrades you can give to your phone. Aim to replace your battery every two years. However, you should seek professional help. Contact Apple, Samsung, or Google directly to explore your options. You'll pay less than $100.
Use the case: Keeping your phone “naked” is too risky. If you're a butterfinger, get the OtterBox. If you like a sleek look, Spigen makes slim, military-grade cases. Smartish has wallet cases, comfortable grip options, and more.
Battery Management: Your phone works best in temperatures between 32 and 95 degrees Fahrenheit. Avoid exposing your phone to sunlight when it's hot, and keep it in your pocket when it's cold. If it burns, turn off the power or leave it in a shady place for a while. It is not recommended to put it in the freezer.
Delete junk: Make sure your phone runs faster with plenty of free storage so delete all unused apps and files. Quick cleanup: Open the Files app on Android and Clean tab. For iPhone, go to: setting > Normally > iphone storage space See which apps can boot.
