Howard University announced Friday that the institution will revoke an honorary degree originally awarded to the now-disgraced rapper and music mogul in 2014.
The Historically Black College and University (HBCU) reported that its board of trustees unanimously voted to reinstate Combs to his degree after a video surfaced in 2016 showing him assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura.
“Mr. Combs’ actions captured in the recently released video are fundamentally incompatible with Howard University’s core values and beliefs, and he is no longer considered deserving of the institution’s highest honor,” a school spokesperson said in a statement. “He said.
“The University has a firm stance against all acts of interpersonal violence.”
The spokesperson also said the decision “revokes all honors and privileges associated with the degree.”
The statement also detailed that the school would terminate its 2016 endowment agreement with Combs, disband a scholarship established in his name, return $1 million in donations and cancel its 2023 pledge agreement with the Sean Combs Foundation.
Diddy attended Howard from 1987 to 1989.
