Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) will join the SkyTeam airline alliance on September 1 and leave Star Alliance on August 31.
SAS EuroBonus loyalty program members will receive similar loyalty benefits on most SkyTeam airlines, SAS said. SAS is negotiating with SkyTeam and its member airlines to “develop and grow a broad commercial relationship”.
According to SAS, the new alliance will give SAS customers access to 19 new airlines and more than 1,060 destinations around the world. Star Alliance benefits will remain in effect until August 31.
The major North American airlines affiliated with SkyTeam are Delta and Aeromexico. European airlines in the alliance include Air France, KLM, Virgin Atlantic, ITA Airlines and Czech Airlines. Asian members include Korean Air and Chinese carriers Xiamen Airlines, China Airlines and China Eastern Airlines.
