BAMBERG COUNTY, SC (TCD) — A 28-year-old man has been charged by police with murdering his missing 25-year-old girlfriend and attempting to burn her body.
According to the Bamburg County Sheriff's Office, Megan Bodiford was last seen Thursday, April 25, in Denmark, South Carolina. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) said a few days later, on April 30, human remains were found in a burned-out vehicle off Turn Ray Road.
Investigators identified Jarrett Davis as the primary suspect. According to SLED, Davis allegedly shot and killed Bodiford, a mother of three, on April 25, then put her body in her vehicle and set it on fire.
On Friday, May 3, SLED charged Davis with murder, possession of a weapon during a crime of violence, unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, third-degree arson, and desecration of human remains.
Before the alleged shooting death, Bodiford texted a friend and said she was worried her boyfriend, Davis, was going to kill her, according to an incident report reviewed by WIS-TV. After Bodiford was reported missing, authorities reportedly searched the couple's home and arrested Davis on an active domestic violence warrant.
Authorities did not find Bodiford's remains at the residence at the time, but the victim's 4-month-old baby was reportedly unharmed. A family member took custody of the baby, WIS reported.
Investigators reportedly believe the body was Bodiford's, but the Bamberg County Coroner's Office has not yet positively identified the body found in the vehicle, WIS reported.
