Chicago (Illinois) – May 6, 2024 – Comau unveiled its new S family of small but powerful robots at Automate 2024, North America’s leading automation trade show. The first two high-speed robots, with payloads ranging from 13 kg to 18 kg, are specifically designed for assembly, arc welding and handling applications where accuracy, repeatability and speed are uncompromising. Distinguished by its sophisticated performance and historic red robot design, it also reflects Comau's commitment to making automation more accessible to a variety of non-automotive industries. Small, robust and versatile, the robot can easily access small spaces and tight spaces that are difficult for other robots to reach. The S family of six-axis jointed-arm robots, which are highly energy efficient and certified according to the Fraunhofer process directive, help companies achieve higher production quality and better performance while reducing energy consumption and costs.
The S robot family is suitable for applications that require maximum accuracy and speed while ensuring complete protection from elements such as water, dust and other contaminants. Premium IP68 hollow wrist design allows electrical and auxiliary wiring to connect to the wrist, allowing the robot to operate more nimbly with minimal risk of damage. It is also the only robot with fully integrated arc and gigabit equipment, helping eliminate layout constraints, simplify assembly and installation, ensure faster response times, and significantly reduce cable kinks and breaks and subsequent maintenance costs. This makes the S family easy to use in food, beverage and general assembly applications, in addition to automating welding, handling, casting, automotive and battery manufacturing processes. Finally, the robot can be mounted on the floor, wall or ceiling. This allows you to optimize space without compromising performance.
“Comau's new S family of compact, high-speed robots combines efficiency and technical excellence with the features needed for effective use in new markets and specific applications. says Nicole Clement, Chief Business Unit Leader, Advanced Automation Solutions. “Our commitment to making automation easier to install and use, especially in non-automotive markets where automation is growing rapidly, is another way Comau is bringing the power of automation to an increasingly diverse range of industries and applications.”
The S family robots are tested and certified for energy efficiency according to the Fraunhofer procedure and are available in two payload configurations (13 kg and 18 kg) with a reach of 1700 mm and repeatability of ±0.03 mm.
