Design and Features
The most striking feature of the Speedybee F405 Wing MINI is its size. This compact flight controller is much smaller than its sibling, the standard F405 Wing FC. The small form factor offers great benefits for space-constrained builds.
Despite its small size, it offers several notable features. The ability to switch between C1 and C2 cameras is a new addition not normally found on F405 boards, increasing pilot versatility utilizing multiple camera setups.
One standout feature is the wireless tuning feature, which proved useful for setting and adjusting parameters without the hassle of connecting a USB cable.
It is a thoughtful consideration to include SBUS input pins and exposed pins for UART1 to allow compatibility with a variety of wireless systems such as Frsky, ExpressLRS, and Crossfire.
With 11 PWM outputs, 6 UARTs (1 for WiFi), and support for both digital and analog video transmitters, the F405 Wing Mini is designed to meet a variety of flying styles and preferences.
This kit includes both right-angle and vertical header pin options to connect the servo and receiver, providing increased mounting flexibility depending on the space available within your build. The board also supports dual cameras and digital FPV systems to meet different user preferences.
Installation and setup
The Speedybee F405 Wing Mini comes with everything you need for assembly, avoiding the typical frustration of finding compatible cables or connectors. The thoughtful inclusion of capacitors and various boards for bottom mounting options demonstrates Speedybee's commitment to user-friendliness.
One thing to note is the orientation of the switchboard, which is designed to be located at the top.
Setting up the FC was a breeze thanks to the detailed manual and the intuitive interface of the SpeedyBee app. The SpeedyBee app doesn't support wireless firmware flashing yet, but a big plus is that it supports INAV 7 from the start. You can also flash the firmware and configure the FC in the traditional way using a PC via a USB cable.
The F405 Wing Mini's small size hasn't compromised its ability to deliver a stable and responsive flight experience. The board design makes wiring and component attachment easy, but the unusual mounting hole pattern may require some adjustments, such as using double-sided foam tape for installation.
final thoughts
The Speedybee F405 Wing Mini flight controller stands out for its compact size, comprehensive feature set, and ease of use. The design is suitable for both beginners and experienced users and provides everything you need for a successful build out of the box. That's why they call this FC “Easy Fly”.
