Republican election officials across the United States have formed a group to counter Donald Trump's efforts to undermine trust in American elections.

Sterling, the chief operating officer of the Georgia Secretary of State's office, is part of an effort that began after the last presidential election to bring together Republican officials willing to defend the state's election system and its people. Who runs it? They want officials to reinforce the message that elections are secure and accurate, and they say that approach is especially important as the country heads into another divisive presidential election.
The group has held meetings in several states and plans more before the Nov. 5 election.
…
“This has never been and will never be specifically about Trump,” said Matt Germer, director of governance at the R Street Institute and a key organizer of the effort. “It’s about higher democratic principles. What does it mean to be a conservative who believes in democracy, the rule of law?”
The efforts by Republican election officials may not be about Trump specifically, but they are a response to the lies the former president has spread and is currently spreading.
The group's work serves as a good reminder that not all Republicans are election-boycotting MAGA. As we saw in America in 2020, there are some Republicans at the state level who are willing to put democracy first and not engage with Trump's efforts to destroy the foundations of American governance.
In states like Kentucky, Kansas, Georgia, Utah, and others, Republican efforts combine with Democrats' support for election protections to form a statewide firewall against Trump's election.
Democracy is bigger than partisan politics. If we all come together enough to protect democracy, we will have a country free to engage on future policy differences.
