Prince William attended the Garter Day event held at Windsor Castle in the absence of his wife Kate Middleton.
King Charles and his son, along with Queen Camilla and other members of the royal family, attended traditional celebrations this afternoon to mark the ancient Order of the Garter, which kicks off the busy royal summer season.
Commemorating this day, William wrote: “We celebrate the Order of the Garter at Windsor today – a timeless tradition spanning over six centuries that recognizes public service from a diverse range of backgrounds. We are grateful to Lady Companion to Amos, Baron Amos of the Garter, for her insight.”
Garter Day is an annual event that celebrates new appointments to the highest and most senior positions in the British Order.
After the service, the royal family returned to the castle in a carriage.
Prince Andrew did not attend the Garter Day service or Trooping the Colour.
This year the King appointed Baroness Manningham-Buller as Chancellor of the Order of the Garter and Lord Ashton of Hyde as Master of the Horses.
