The introduction of Pokémon Legends spin-offs from the mainline games has been a breath of fresh air for the franchise, allowing fans to experience something a little different from the usual formula.
Pokemon Legends: ZA is the second Legends title to appear, and like Pokemon Legends: Arceus, it aims to provide new interpretations of previously visited regions. Below, we'll walk you through everything we know about ZA, including release date, trailer, platforms, and more.
Pokemon Legends: ZA Release Date
Pokemon Legends: ZA release date is currently 2025.Specific details have not been disclosed yet.
The game, which is based on a past Pokemon Legends game, Pokemon Legends: Arceus, was released in January 2022, and a similar game is expected to be released on ZA as well.
That's because the Holiday Spot is usually reserved for mainline Pokemon titles, so causing confusion with a Legends game is likely the last thing The Pokemon Company and Nintendo want to do. Plus, February is Pokemon Day, so why not play the game during this time?
Pokemon Legends: ZA Trailer
Nintendo surprised us all by releasing the trailer for Pokemon Legends: ZA on Pokemon Day 2024. This is the only preview we have of the game so far, but expect to see more later this year.
If you haven't had a chance to watch it yet, here it is:
The trailer doesn't tell us much about what to expect in terms of gameplay other than revealing some of the Pokémon you'll encounter, but it at least runs through the setting. Plus, if you've watched to the end, there's a return mechanic that we'll cover shortly.
Pokemon Legends: ZA Platform
Nintendo stated: Pokemon Legends: ZA is coming to the Nintendo Switch system This means that even existing 2017 models can be played.
However, what hasn't been specified for obvious reasons is whether or not it will also release in the Switch sequel. It's pretty safe to say that 'Switch 2' will indeed be included as a launch window title, as there are many reports that the new console will be in our hands around that time.
Where is the Pokemon Legends: ZA set?
Pokemon Legends: ZA is set in the Kalos region, specifically Lumoise City.
This has been confirmed by the official Nintendo
Having a “complete” set of Pokémon games in one city may seem limiting to some, but with the city undergoing multiple redevelopments, it looks like it could expand much further than it did when it appeared in Pokémon X & Y.
If you haven't played the first game, Lumoise City is loosely based on the real Paris and has a lot to explore. ZA is once again home to Lumoise Gym, paying homage to the Eiffel Tower. However, as the Legends formula moves away from gyms and their leaders, it seems unlikely we'll be seeing the same Clemont we met in the original city.
Does Pokemon Legends: ZA have a Mega Evolution?
Yes, it looks like Mega Evolutions will be back. After a brief hiatus, we're back with Pokemon Legends: ZA.
Mega Evolutions were introduced in Pokemon
If you haven't played the main Pokémon games or Pokémon GO, you might be confused as to what this mechanic actually is. Well, essentially this allows you to 'evolve' your Pokémon during battle, turning it into its Mega form. This form dramatically improves their abilities and even gives them different moves. Think of Mega Evolutions as the precursor to Dynamaxing.
The number of Pokémon that can Mega Evolve is limited, and that's expected to be the case in Pokémon Legends: ZA. It's likely the stronger 'mons and their third evolutions that will get the mega treatment, so don't think they'll utilize this mechanic from the get-go.
Is there Zygarde in Pokemon Legends: ZA?
Zygarde was one of the three main legendary Pokemon that came with Pokemon X & Y, but unlike previous entries in the franchise like Emerald, it didn't get a game focused on its presence.
With its futuristic look, green coloring, and the fact that it'll be heading back to the Kalos region, it's pretty safe to assume that Zygarde will step into the limelight as a major legend in ZA.
But what we're not sure about is what form Zygarde takes. There were three forms in All we can do is wait and see for this interesting legend to come out.
