In a big update this week (May 1), Snapchat announced several new features, including editable Snaps, something users have long requested.
According to a press release from Snapchat, users of the communication app send more than 5 billion (yes, BILLION) Snaps per day. It's inevitable that some of these will have typos or that you'll wish you had written the wording slightly differently. It has been hard for you so far. Once released to the world, Snap hasn't changed as much as Tweets in 2021.
One of the key features of the new batch update is editable Snaps. You have a limited time to edit a Snap, up to 5 minutes after you send it and before someone replies. There's no set date for when this feature will launch, but it's expected to first become available to paid Snapchat+ subscribers soon.
How to Edit Chat on Snapchat
You can edit a Snap only if both of the following are true:
- Less than 5 minutes have passed since I sent the message. After that, you will no longer be able to edit the message.
- Your message has not been responded to yet. As soon as someone responds, you will no longer be able to edit the message.
If both of these criteria are met, editing chat messages on Snapchat is very simple.
- Select the message you want to edit
- Among the common copy/forward/save options, you can now find “Edit Chat”.
- You can change the selected chat by selecting the edit option.
What other features are coming to Snapchat?
- New Emoji Reactions – Reactions are no longer limited to Bitmoji. React with the emoji that best suits the situation.
- My AI Notifications – Despite a rocky start, Snapchat continues to improve My AI, this time with notifications. When you send a DM request to the AI chatbot (e.g. “Remind me to pick up milk at 2pm tomorrow”), it will set up a countdown and let you know when the requested time is.
- Map Reactions – If you choose to share your Snap Map location, you can now wave and send hearts directly to nearby friends on the map.
- Bitmoji AI Fashion – Create unique patterns for Bitmoji clothes using short descriptive prompts.
- AI Lenses – Choose a lens (currently only 90s lenses, but more to come) and let AI transform you into a period piece.
