GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (TCD) — Law enforcement officials are investigating a homicide after a new homeowner recently discovered dismembered body parts inside his freezer.
On Jan. 14, Mesa County Sheriff's Office deputies were called to the 2900 block of Pinyon Avenue after new residents at that address cleaned out some items and discovered human remains.
The sheriff's office said in an update that the medical examiner performed an autopsy and “confirmed that the remains found at the Pinyon Avenue address on January 12, 2024 were a human head and human hands.”
According to KREX-TV, on the day of the discovery, the new homeowner shared on social media that neighbors were welcome to take any “free stuff” left behind by previous tenants. It is said that while someone was rummaging through a walk-in freezer, body parts were found under meat in a plastic bag.
“Our hope is to proactively identify victims while respecting them and their families,” the sheriff’s office said.
