This month a trademark application was filed for ‘Space Mountain Earthrise’. Its scope includes entertainment, provision of goods and services, arts, sports or educational training, and film planning and operation. The name offers little insight, but it's the latest details revealed about the upcoming attraction after it was announced by Oriental Land Company for 2022. Along with the revamped attractions, Tokyo Disneyland will also debut a new Tomorrowland plaza.
“Space Mountain, an exhilarating indoor roller coaster that delivers high-speed fun through space, has been loved by many guests since the grand opening of Tokyo Disneyland in 1983. This all-new attraction stays true to the original concept of being an indoor roller coaster, but with improved performance and immersive special effects to give guests even more thrills on this exciting rocket ride.
The new Tomorrowland plaza expresses the connection between Earth and space and expresses an image of a future where humans and nature are in harmony. Guests will be able to enjoy moments of rest and relaxation in this plaza, where various icons and design elements evoke hope for the future. After dark, this area will draw guests into a world of light and sound.”
Disney and Oriental Land Company (OLC) have released three pieces of concept artwork showcasing the ride and plaza in day, twilight, and night environments.
About 56 billion yen ($437 million) will be allocated for the construction of new rides. Crews will begin clearing the site in late 2022, followed by a groundbreaking ceremony in May 2023.
The “Space Mountain Celebration: Final Ignition” festival, which celebrates iterations of existing attractions, begins April 9 and extends through July 31, coinciding with Space Mountain's current closure. This event offers exclusive merchandise.
