Goffstown, NH (TCD) — A man who stabbed his mother to death in 2023 and set her body on fire shortly after she gave her a PlayStation on her 47th birthday will be sentenced to 40 years in prison.
According to prosecutors, Humphrey stabbed his mother at their home on November 28, 2023. He was living in Tufts' basement, and they began arguing about the amount of video games he played, WMUR-TV reported. Humphrey reportedly stabbed his mother 22 times, nearly decapitated her, and then set her body on fire.
Officers entered the residence, discovered flames, and found Humphrey in the basement with self-inflicted injuries. He was reportedly armed with a weapon.
Judge William Delker called the case one of the most brutal murders he has presided over, according to WMUR.
“The brutality of this crime makes it too risky not to impose a very long state prison sentence,” Delker added.
