A mother in Park City, Utah, wrote about how she taught her daughter to snowboard.
In a series of videos shared on TikTok, Sandy Hango showed her daughter Evelyn how to snowboard since she was 3 days old. With Evelyn turning 2 on March 2, Sandy looked back on how she has been documenting her daughter's snowboarding trips over the past few years.
“As a former kindergarten teacher, I always encouraged parents to start activities with their children as young as possible,” Hango explained. people. “Children are sponges and will absorb everything you do. My daughter has completely absorbed her love of snowboarding and I couldn’t be happier!”
Hango, an avid snowboarder since the fifth grade, wanted to hit the slopes with his daughter. At first, when Evelyn was just two months old, she tied her to her chest as she “did a few runs up the bunny hill.” As Evelyn learned to walk, Hango began showing her how to balance by riding her mini snowboard around her house.
When asked if she was nervous about going skiing with her daughter, she said, “I would never have taken my daughter out if I didn't feel 100 percent comfortable.”
In a TikTok video seen by more than 3.8 million people, Hango showed how much progress Evelyn has made since her first ride, sharing moments when her daughter has now transitioned to using bindings at just 11 months old. These days, Evelyn is comfortable letting herself slip.
“My favorite thing about snowboarding with my daughter is watching her smile and having a good time,” Sandy said. “She absolutely loves it! She dances, waves at people, and asks for ‘more’. She is so happy that she and I share her love of the same sport.”
Family and friends have been supportive of Evelyn's snowboarding journey. But Hango admitted there were people she wished she had skied instead. That said, both her husband Alexander and his family are primarily skiers. “But after watching the video and actually seeing Evelyn snowboard, they had an idea,” she said.
Evelyn reportedly loved snowboarding and Hango said she repeatedly asked when she could hit the slopes again. “Every time I’m outside the house or in the mountains, he says, ‘Mom, please go snowboarding,’” Hango said.
