KEARNEY, Mo. (TCN) — A 48-year-old woman was taken into custody on suspicion of shooting her husband to death at home and calling 911 to admit the crime.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Melissa Hoffner-Allen said she shot her husband in the chest while speaking with Clay County Dispatch on June 18. Clay County Sheriff's Office deputies later responded to her home on Kountry Ridge Drive and found the victim, 50-year-old Ricky Allen, dead at the scene from a gunshot wound.
Police reportedly found spent shell casings and several firearms in the stairs. According to the probable cause affidavit, detectives also observed “defects in the drywall indicating that a disturbance may have occurred as particles of the drywall fell to the ground resting on animal fur and animal food.”
In an interview, Hoffner-Allen reportedly told officials that her husband “got angry at her and strangled her.” She grabbed her gun from upstairs and her husband said, “Shoot me.” Investigators claim she fatally shot her husband in the chest.
Hoffner-Allen reportedly used a firearm that the victim had recently purchased.
While processing the scene and taking photos, deputies reportedly noticed bruising on Hoffner Allen's arms. Her probable cause affidavit said Hoffner Allen was wearing a tight dress at the time of her shooting, meaning she was not allowed to have her firearm and she had to separate from Ms. Allen and return home.
Authorities booked Hoffner-Allen into the Clay County Detention Center on charges of second-degree murder and armed criminal action. She is being held on $250,000 bond.
