MACOM COUNTY, MI (TCD) — A 22-year-old man has recently been sentenced after pleading no contest to the 2022 shooting death of a teenage mother.
The Macomb County Prosecutor's Office made the announcement. A judge sentenced Nathaniel Taylor May 15 to 17 to 50 years in prison for the second-degree murder of 17-year-old Taya Land and two years for the felony gun charge.
According to prosecutors, on Friday, October 14, 2022, Taylor and Land got into a dispute, and Taylor “pushed Land out of his car” on the highway and “shot him three times in the head with a 9mm firearm.” “He left the woman's body on the side of the road, MLive.com reports.
Taylor and Land reportedly met on an online app. Investigators obtained phone evidence showing Taylor stopped on the highway for several minutes before driving off. The Detroit News reports.
Rand reportedly left behind a one-year-old child.
Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido said: “This sentence ensures that the defendant is held accountable for the senseless loss of life. I hope this brings some closure to the family who has suffered a great tragedy,” he said.
