Queen Elizabeth II of England was just 13 years old when she first met 18-year-old Royal Navy cadet Philip. Over the next few months, young Elizabeth and Philip stayed in contact through letters throughout the war. When Philip returned after the war in 1946, their love blossomed. Although many thought Philip was too un-English, Elizabeth stood her ground on her Philip. So the official announcement about them was made in July 1947. Philip then changed his surname from the Germanic Battenberg to the more English Mountbatten and renounced his rights to the Danish and Greek thrones. Finally, on November 20, 1947, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip married at Westminster Abbey in London, and 2,500 guests attended the wedding. Over the years, Princess Elizabeth became Queen Elizabeth II, making her Britain's longest-serving monarch, having reigned for over 70 years. In their personal life, the couple has four children.
On November 20, 1997, to celebrate her 50th wedding anniversary, Queen Elizabeth II expressed her deep gratitude to her husband, Prince Philip, who had been her strong support. “He is not a man who accepts praise easily, but simply put, he has been my strength and support over the past few years. I, his entire family, this country and many others owe him more than he owes us. “You’re losing. If you don’t claim it, we’ll find out,” the Queen said.
On April 9, 2021, Prince Philip passed away at the age of 99, and just over a year later, on September 8, 2022, Queen Elizabeth II also passed away at the age of 96. Their marriage is one of love, respect, and deep understanding that overcomes all the ups and downs of life.
