exchange:
Hoppinger: Who is Maggie Haberman?
COHEN: She's a reporter for the New York Times.
MC to MH: My supervisor has just approved responding to the complaint and statement. Please start writing and we will call you shortly.
Big Boss is Donald Trump. The MC is Michael Cohen, and the MH is Maggie Haberman.
Trump approved Cohen's conversation with Haberman, so Cohen told Haberman to start writing her story and then call her later.
Haberman was writing with Trump's approval and on Trump's schedule. This is not how journalism works. Journalists do not get permission from their subjects before writing a story, and they do not start writing before they have the information. Haberman does not report. She's writing for Trump.
Cohen's conversation with Haberman suggests that Haberman is in Trump's back pocket and that she is employed by The New York Times and CNN because of her access to Trump. Haberman gained that access by writing what Trump wanted.
Maggie Haberman's testimony at the 1/6 committee hearing was also described as pro-Trump by people associated with the former president.
Maggie Haberman is being exposed for access journalism at its worst, and it says a lot about the reporting trends at The New York Times, where she is praised as a star reporter.
