Las Vegas (TCD) — A 53-year-old man has been charged with stabbing his wife to death over the weekend following an argument over alleged infidelity.
Shortly after 1 a.m. on Saturday, February 3, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to the 4900 block of Chantilly Avenue and found an unconscious woman, identified as Veronica Cortes-Rosales, according to KLAS-TV. wound. Moises Sánchez reportedly called the police and admitted to killing his wife, sparking an investigation into her.
Medical staff also responded to the home and announced that the woman had died. When police arrived, Sanchez was standing in the driveway and officers took him into custody, according to KLAS.
Police reportedly found Cortes-Rosales' body with a “significant” amount of blood in his bedroom, a converted garage.
The couple's three young daughters were reportedly at home during the attack.
Sanchez told investigators he had lived in the home for about seven years with his wife, whom he married in 1999, as well as his daughter, adult son and daughter-in-law, according to a report reviewed by KLAS.
Sanchez reportedly believed his wife had started “acting differently” several months ago and suspected she was having an affair with a co-worker. But KLAS reported that Sanchez had no evidence of an affair and only thought it was because she didn't love him and texted him on his phone at night.
Sanchez told investigators his wife would be “nervous” if he took the phone away, but he never looked at it. Sanchez reportedly spied on his wife while she was at work. According to KLAS, Sanchez watched his wife work at her job and never noticed that she was “engaging in any activity other than normal social interaction.”
Sanchez reportedly told police that on February 2, he used a friend's car to spy on his wife in the parking lot. Sanchez reportedly called Cortes-Rosales at his workplace, lied that his car had broken down and asked for a ride. According to KLAS, Sanchez told investigators that his wife did not believe the lie, which made her angry and that she refused his request to give him a ride.
Sanchez said he arrived home late that day and began arguing with his wife after seeing her lying in bed with their 5-year-old daughter. Before going to bed, Sanchez picked up a hunting knife and placed it in the trunk next to his bed, according to a report obtained by KLAS.
When Sanchez tried to hug his wife, she reportedly rejected his advances and pushed him away. Sanchez claimed he “lost it,” grabbed a knife and stabbed Cortes-Rosales once in the back. KLAS reported that she began screaming, and Sanchez told police she asked her to be quiet so as not to wake her children.
Sanchez allegedly stabbed his wife again, and blood began pouring toward the 5-year-old child. According to KLAS, Sanchez told police he brought his daughter, covered her wife with a blanket, and put her daughter in the other bed.
Afterwards, Sanchez reportedly called his cousin and admitted that he had stabbed his wife to death.
Sanchez told detectives he would not have stabbed his wife if she had hugged him and shown affection, KLAS reported.
Additionally, in a separate incident, Sanchez told investigators that after watching the movie footage, he shot his son's gun into a pillow, using it as a silencer. But Sanchez said the shooting was not a threat to Cortes-Rosales.
Sanchez was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on suspicion of open murder, according to police.
