MSNBC's Katie Fang, host of her eponymous show, pointed to calls for President Joe Biden to retract remarks disparaging his success in his first term, writing:
“The only person who can and will decide whether Joe Biden is eliminated is Joe Biden.
I personally support Joe Biden as the Democratic candidate. I think it is an insult to his success to ignore his success in his first term and call for him to step down. There are many success stories. It also ignores some practical realities that cannot be overlooked with only a few months left until Election Day.
Covering the latest news on this issue will happen because it is news. Ultimately, the information is refined and processed by the people who consume the news. I will pass that information on to you and share my perspective, and then you will decide how best to proceed with it.
I hope you trust me. I will always try to do the right thing for you all. That's my promise.”
Phang's statement is practical, transparent, direct and accountable. This is what we should expect from anyone in the media. The claim of unbiasedness is dishonest. In a country as divided as the United States, few newsmen are aware of the events of the past nine years. We haven't even chosen a president yet.
As for her claim that Biden’s successful first term has been ignored, President Biden has been rated the 14th best president in history by 154 historians and presidential experts, and he hasn’t even finished his first term yet. That’s a real achievement that voters should recognize.
Criminal Donald J. Trump is dead last. Not because he is a criminal, but because this assessment was published in February 2024 and was conducted from November 15 to December 31, 2023.
One of President Biden’s biggest challenges is how to convey the scope and breadth of his policy achievements to the public without sounding like a professor, given the sheer scale and impact of his groundbreaking policies.
President Biden is not perfect, but no one said he was. What voters have said recently about the president is, “He’s a good guy,” “He’s a decent guy who does good things,” and “He saw the threat Trump posed and sacrificed a lot to run for president.”
That kind of goodwill is not easy to come by in a long political career, and when it comes to candidates, it’s lightning in a bottle. Because while Biden has an objectively impressive policy record, many people will vote on gut instinct. They will vote for who they like. They will vote for who they want their kids to hear about on TV for the next four years.
It was clear from the voters’ reaction to the debates that the media said Biden lost that Trump was very disliked every time he opened his mouth. This is something the media ignores about Trump because he has made a ton of money in the media, and the stability of the Biden White House since he left office has allowed people to focus on their own lives instead of being caught up in the panic and chaos of the Trump roller coaster. Even Trump voters said they found Trump embarrassing and his “drama” exhausting.
Katie Pang's statement is a breath of fresh air for a media that has been struggling to keep readers and viewers engaged while pinning its financial hopes on a Trump presidency.
