kate middleton and prince william The Princess of Wales has been touched by the kind messages the royal couple have received since she was diagnosed with cancer.
“The Prince and Princess have been deeply moved by the kind messages from people across the UK, the Commonwealth and around the world in response to Their Royal Highnesses’ message,” a Kensington Palace spokesperson said in a statement to ET.
“They have been very touched by the public’s warmth and support, and we are grateful that they understand our request for privacy at this time.”
Kate, 42, said on Friday that she diagnosed with cancer. The princess said her condition was not thought to be cancer when she underwent abdominal surgery earlier this year. But a post-operative examination “found cancer.”
Kate didn't reveal what type of cancer she was battling, only saying she was currently undergoing “prophylactic chemotherapy” and was “currently in the early stages of treatment.”
A source tells ET that Kate filmed her announcement video on March 20 and began receiving treatment for cancer shortly after her surgery in January. The royal couple took pains to tell their children about this, the source explained. Because they wanted to protect their children as much as possible.
“Children process information in different ways. Their main concern was making sure children were able to explain and process it in a way that made them feel safe,” the source said.
Even on Friday, King Charles III Charles expressed his support for his daughter-in-law through a spokesperson, saying, “I am very proud of Catherine for speaking out so courageously.” Kate and Charles were both admitted to hospital at the same time earlier this year. Due to Kate's planned abdominal surgery, Her Majesty Calibration Procedure. Wang is also fighting cancer.
After being admitted to hospital together, Charles said: “I have been in the closest contact with my beloved daughter-in-law over the past few weeks and the two royals will continue to provide love and support to the whole family through this difficult time.”
