WASHINGTON — A recent subpoena issued to a House sergeant-at-arms relates to the Democratic lawmaker and his use of federal funds for security vendors, two sources familiar with the matter said Monday.
The identity of the lawmaker was not immediately known.
The clerk publicly notified lawmakers of the subpoena request when the House met Monday, but provided few details.
“This is formal notification pursuant to Rule 8 of the House Rules that the Office of the Sergeant at Arms has received a grand jury subpoena for documents issued by the United States Department of Justice. ” House Reading Clerk Susan Cole said as she read a notice from House of Representatives Sergeant at Arms William McFarland.
