Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee ruled that District Attorney Fanny Willis must step down or fire Special Counsel Nathan Wade from her case in the Georgia election interference case against Donald Trump.
McAfee made the ruling in response to a motion by one of the defendants in the case to exclude Willis from the proceedings due to his inappropriate relationship with Wade.
Willis and Wade acknowledged a “personal relationship” but said they had no direct or indirect financial benefit to either party.
The judge accused Willis of showing “gross errors of judgment” and acting in an “unprofessional manner.”
However, he judged that there was not enough evidence to support a conflict of interest, and instead proposed a solution that could allay concerns that a conflict of interest may appear.
“The prosecution of this case cannot proceed until the state chooses one of two options. “The district attorney may step down along with his entire office and refer his charges to the Prosecuting Attorney’s Council for reassignment,” McAfee wrote in the 23-page decision.
“Or Wade could step aside and allow the district attorney, defendants and the public to move forward without his presence or payoff interfering with or potentially compromising the merits of this case.”
One of the two has to go.

Fanny Willis should either commit suicide or fire her boyfriend.
The judge's ruling creates an interesting, if uninteresting, scenario in which Fani Willis would essentially have to fire herself or her boyfriend, but in reality it amounts to a pathetic mark and a victory for the prosecutor's office as a whole.
Critics argue that the crux of the movement to remove Willis remains. She says she lied when she was in a romantic relationship with Wade.
Willis' college friend Robin Yeartie testified that the DA's personal relationship with Wade began in 2019. This was years before they both say their relationship began and long before he was hired to work on the Georgia election interference case.
They substantiated that schedule in official court documents. The apparent perjury led an MSNBC legal analyst to declare it was “game over” for Willis.

The game is over, but her case survives. Most people suggest Fanny Willis would almost certainly abandon Wade if she could establish him as a liberal icon by prosecuting former President Trump.
Podcast host Megyn Kelly accused the judge in the case of making a “cowardly” decision.
Kelly wrote on “The judge split the baby. Obviously Wade will go and Fani will stay. “It’s a cowardly decision by the judge, but it’s still a huge win for this defense team.”
Is Willis under investigation?
Kelly went on to compare Judge McAfee to Chief Justice John Roberts. Roberts often collaborates with left-leaning members of the court to make decisions in order to present a balanced picture that will encourage the media to report favorably on them.
Nonetheless, Kelly said Fani Willis was “publicly humiliated and disgraced” by revelations from the hearing.
“I have no confidence at all that she will try this case against Trump,” she added. “By then, she will have been investigated several times.”
It is crazy that Fanny Willis continues her work on the Trump case or remains licensed as an attorney after GPS data clearly shows she lied. I have never seen a clearer case of perjury. If lawyers can get away with this, there is no rule of law. pic.twitter.com/C3xmPDGgiM

Some rates have been reduced
In a further troubling development for Fanny Willis, the judge dropped six counts in the indictment against Trump and other defendants. Three of them specifically involved the presumptive Republican presidential nominee.
It's not a completely destructive move, but it shows Willis standing on very shaky ground.

McAfee also accused Fani Willis of espousing racism for calling for his removal.
“More troubling,” McAfee said, “rather than blaming it on criminals’ general aversion to being convicted and sentenced to prison, the district attorney accused the effort of being motivated by ‘playing the racing card.’” McAfee wrote.
“She continues to frequently refer to SADA Wade as ‘the black man,’ while her other unchallenged SADA are labeled ‘one white woman’ and ‘one white man,’” he continued. .
“The effect of this speech was to inflict racial insults on the accused defendant for his decision to file a pretrial motion.”
He described Willis' actions and words as “legally inappropriate.”
