Rome-based sales company Intramovies has acquired international rights to “Uncle Jens,” the directorial debut of Brwa Vahabpour, the Kurdish-born Norwegian pitcher known for the hit series “Countrymen.”
“The World’s Worst Man” associate producer Renée Hansen Mlodyszewski is producing for True Content Production, the Oslo arm of Scandi group True Content Entertainment, led by Yellow Bird founder Ole Søndberg.
Anda Ionescu of Bucharest-based Tangaj Production serves as co-producer.
The crew includes cinematographer Jørgen Klüver (“Nudes”) production designer Kristian Lahn Vestby (“Nach”) and seasoned Romanian editor Cătălin Cristuşiu (“Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn”) in collaboration with Norwegian Brynjar Lien Aune.
Vahabpour first came to the festival's attention with his 2020 short film “Silence,” which was selected for the Palm Spring International ShortFest. He went on to direct two episodes of the Norwegian award-winning series “Countrymen”.
Formerly known as “Europa,” the film is about family relationships and cultural identity, as a young teacher Payman Azizpour (“A Midsummer Night,” “Furia,” “The Fortress”) struggles to live a peaceful life in Oslo with his Kurdish uncle. (Hamza Agosh) will turn things upside down. ) arrives unexpectedly. He soon realizes that there is more to his uncle's visit than he first thought.

With this new pickup, Intramovies expands its roster of emerging Scandinavian talent, led by Mika Gustafson and Finn Inari Niemi (“Light, Light, Light”), who won multiple awards for their debut feature “Paradise is Burning.”
“My Uncle Jens” will be released in Scandinavia through Norsk Filmdistribusjon. Intramovies began selling its films at the Cannes Film Market.
