Since Oracle has not released an ARM version (Apple Silicon) of Instant Client (OCI8), I downloaded the OCI8 binary (based on the Intel version of Instant Client) via Pecl.
Okay, maybe that's not a big deal. MAMP runs Apache, MySQL, and PHP natively, so there shouldn't be any performance hit. Rosetta translations of Intel code should not have any significant or negative impact on your use of MAMP.
However, the Intel version of the binary (MAMP_MAMP_PRO_6.9-Intel-x86.pkg
) on my MacBook Air (M2, 2023)?
When you run the installer you will receive the following message which effectively blocks and installs:
You need an x86_64 CPU!
An x86 CPU (64-bit) is required to run MAMP or MAMP PRO.
I guess I can just go through the hassle of having my coworker install it on his Intel based Mac and then copy the MAMP folder to: /Applications/MAMP
Want to save it to a USB flash drive and then install it on your MacBook Air?
But is there a way to handle this problem myself by forcing the installer to ignore the CPU architecture mismatch?
