Vice President Harris visits an abortion clinic in Minnesota on Thursday. This is a special stop for the Biden campaign to promote the importance of reproductive rights in the 2024 presidential election.
The White House believes it is the first time a U.S. president or vice president has visited a facility that provides abortions and other reproductive care.
Harris has led the White House's efforts to defend reproductive rights since the Supreme Court overturned the ruling. Roe vs. Wade The issue has been a winning issue for Democrats in the 2022 and 2023 elections, and the party has said it will be a top concern for voters heading into November.
Harris will travel to the Twin Cities for the latest in a series of events she has held across the country to highlight reproductive rights.
Harris will tour the hospital with the chief medical officer.
She, along with the facility's chief medical officer, will tour the abortion clinic and speak with staff, a White House official told NPR. The exact location has not been disclosed.
After the Supreme Court overturned roe, Minnesota passed a new law guaranteeing abortion rights. Neighboring states, including North Dakota and South Dakota, have passed bans. That means more women are traveling to Minnesota for the procedure.
Over the past few weeks, she has visited several battleground states critical to Biden's re-election, including Wisconsin, Michigan and Arizona.
Harris has traveled the country discussing reproductive rights following the 2022 Supreme Court decision, leading events on reproductive care at the White House and hosting educational leaders, state lawmakers and medical experts. One of these roundtable conversations included an abortion provider for the first time in the White House.
