Megan Stalter lost almost all of the jewelry she owned.
But she decided to flip the script on the Scorpio ring she wore in a recent interview with The New York Times. Mr. Stalter's girlfriend wears another identical ring.
Ms. Stalter found the matching ring at a Hollywood store that sells jewelry, greeting cards and crystals. She was looking for a ring she could wear as a tribute to her girlfriend while filming Lena Dunham's Netflix series “Too Much,” in which Ms. Stalter stars.
Ms. Stalter also played the main character wearing a leopard coat in the recently released movie “Cora Bora.” And she stole many scenes in a supporting role in the comedy series “Hakes” during its three seasons on Max.
In an edited and condensed interview, the 33-year-old actress talks about the ring she never lost and why it's worth keeping.
Tell us about the jewelry you are wearing.
This is a Scorpio ring that matches perfectly with the ring I gave to my Scorpio girlfriend. It was a secret sign to show her that I was thinking of her in every scene of the last broadcast.
Did you wear it when you filmed?
Wearing a ring was a really big deal on set. “I need my character to wear this ring. It’s really important to me that her character has this ring because someone in her character’s life must have given it to her.”
Everyone thought, 'Why is she so interested in that ring?' It wasn't something the character would naturally wear. So I had to have the whole story about it and say, “Okay, I think someone gave it to her. “
I don't mind if I wear it, but I wanted to find a replica ring because I want to have a backup in case I lose the original. But they couldn't find it. I even told him which store I bought it from. They couldn't get anything else. And I thought, “Okay, I guess we only have two.”
Your girlfriend is a Scorpio. What is your zodiac sign?
I'm a Virgo, but they didn't have that choice.
Are you looking for a ring specifically for the two of you? Or did you think that when you saw the Scorpio ring?
I wanted to buy clothes that would suit us because I had to leave for a big event. I wanted to look the same. I wanted to wear something that would remind me of her.
I don't like rings. I like having rings that have a lot of meaning. I'm really proud that I never lost a ring because it's so important to me.
Did you ever wear a ring while filming 'Too Much' and become more aggressive? Did it help you get into character?
I'm wearing it in the early part of my character's life in the show, not the entire show. So when I actually put her ring on, it occurred to me that this guy was younger than her. But the true meaning of that ring lies with me.
The costumes are a big part of the character. When you put on clothes, you feel different than what you wear. My wardrobe on the show actually said that people feel warmer when they wear their own clothes. The costumes don't feel warm because they're not yours.
