Sacramento, CA (TCD) — A 54-year-old man has been detained after allegedly paying a homeless woman $20 to take her granddaughter to a thrift store while she went to a bar for several hours.
According to the statement, At 7:45 p.m. on Monday, May 6, the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office received a call from a woman who said a man was asking for help because his granddaughter had been “kidnapped on suspicion of human trafficking.” Police responded to a bar parking lot and found Jason Warren “extremely intoxicated.”
He spoke with deputies and said he paid an “unknown homeless woman” $20 that afternoon to take his 7-year-old granddaughter to a nearby thrift store so she could go to a bar and drink. Authorities reviewed surveillance footage of a woman walking with the girl and quickly brought in additional resources to help locate her child.
About 30 minutes after the search began, the woman heard an alert from the sheriff's office helicopter telling her to return the girl to the parking lot. She reportedly stated that the woman “never even thought about it.” [Warren] He was too drunk to take care of the child. She decided to take the girl back to her “camp” to get some food.
The girl had a “confirmed ordeal” and was checked by paramedics on scene as a precaution. She suffered no medical distress and was not harmed.
The girl's aunt has full custody, but she asked Warren to watch the child that day because she had to go to work, according to the statement. Warren was arrested on felony child abuse and other charges.

KTXL-TV report The sheriff's office called the woman a “guardian angel” and said the girl “will be safe with me.”
Warren explained why he asked the woman to babysit his granddaughter. He told KTXL, “I could tell by her personality that she seemed like a decent person. I trusted her like I would trust her older sister or her cousin.”
Warren believes she did nothing wrong, and said, “Everything I've done, I've talked to God about and said, 'God, it's not my will, it's your will.'” Let your will be done.’”
