LOGANSPORT, Ind. (TCN) — A former NFL player and his wife have been found safe and in custody after their son, who was believed to be missing and in danger, went missing two weeks ago.
According to Indiana State Police, 14-year-old Bryson Muir was last seen on June 16, leaving his family’s home in Ohio with his mother. The vehicle, owned by the Servant Leader’s Foundation in Kokomo, Indiana, was reportedly stopped in Garfield Heights, Ohio, but the teen was not in the vehicle.
Two days later, the Cass County Department of Child Services requested the assistance of Indiana State Police to investigate an alleged domestic assault at a teen’s home in Logansport, Indiana. The home and property are also owned by the Servant Leader’s Foundation, an extreme religious group with possible cult ties, WXIN-TV reported. Indiana State Police shared a photo of Muir with a black eye that was nearly swollen shut.
Bryson Muir's grandmother, Cheryl Wright, told WXIN that her son's “face was disfigured” and swollen.
The state issued a Silver Alert for Muir, saying he “appears to be in extremely critical condition and may require medical assistance.”
Indiana State Police said they went to the residence of Daniel Muir and Kristin Muir and “began to show signs of cooperation” in discussing their son’s disappearance. But things changed when the couple told Indiana State Police they were bringing Bryson Muir to meet with investigators, but “backed out of that agreement, indicating that they would not cooperate.”
At 6 a.m. on Wednesday, July 3, Indiana State Police SWAT team members executed a search warrant at Muir’s home and arrested Daniel and Kristin Muir on suspicion of obstruction of justice. Daniel Muir is also charged with domestic assault. Bryson Muir was found “safe and sound” and is being held by the Cass County Department of Children’s Services.
Bryson Muir's grandmother, Wright, said she believed the teenager had been “brainwashed” by his parents.
Daniel Muir played defensive tackle in the NFL from 2007 to 2013, spending most of his career with the Indianapolis Colts.
