Las Vegas (TCN) — A former Las Vegas Metro Police Department officer was found guilty this week of killing his former son-in-law during a custodial visit in 2019.
The 8th District Court announced that a jury found Pamela Bordeaux guilty of murder with a deadly weapon in the death of Sean Babbit. She is scheduled to be sentenced on August 20.
According to KLAS-TV, Bordeaux could face sentences ranging from 20 to 50 years, life without parole, or 20 years to life. Additional time may be required to use Lethal Weapon enhancements.
On April 22, 2019, Babbitt scheduled an approved visitation with the child he shared with Bordeaux's daughter. Bordeaux and Babbitt argued while her daughter and child were upstairs, and Babbitt allegedly fired at least 10 shots at him.
According to KLAS, Bordeaux's lawyers argued that Babbit should not be allowed to be around the family because they believe he is dangerous.
A forensic psychologist testified at the Bordeaux trial that “Mr. Babbitt's impulsive behavior, addiction to extreme pornography, and inadequate medical treatment significantly contributed to his propensity for violence.” Mr Bordeaux's perception of imminent danger is consistent with Mr Babbitt's evidence. “Heightened and erratic behavior.”
Babbitt reportedly wrote a letter saying, “I am an unfit parent.”
When Babbit tried to change their custody agreement, Bordeaux became angry, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Bordeaux's daughter had full custody of her children, and he was allowed one hour of visitation a week.
“The evidence establishes beyond a reasonable doubt that Pamela Bordeaux served as judge, jury and literal executioner in this custody matter,” Clark County District Attorney Michelle Fleck said in closing arguments. .
Bordeaux served in the Las Vegas Metro Police Department for 23 years and in the Army for four years.
