Atlanta (TCD) — A former Atlanta Police Department officer was arrested this week on charges that he fatally shot a Lyft driver who was “trying to recruit him as part of a gay club.”

According to the minor's arrest affidavit cited by WSB-TV.Shortly after midnight on May 15, the minor reportedly called Lyft to pick him up from the home of his friend, a fellow police officer. Reginald Folks arrived and while driving, Folks reportedly spoke on the phone with someone in a different language.
According to WSB, Minor heard a second voice and asked Folks to stop the car. People didn't comply, so Minor tried to open the door when the red light came on, but the door was firmly shut. The men reached into the backseat, and the minor pulled out a gun and shot him three times, including in the head. The minor broke the window and got out of the car.
Another driver saw the minor calling for help and stopped to help. At the time, he said he thought Folks was trying to kidnap him and recruit him into a “gay fraternity.”
atlanta police department issued a statement Minor said he resigned from the department shortly after his arrest. The minor was on administrative leave at the time. He was arrested on drug-related charges last December. Atlanta police reportedly did not take the minor's department-issued firearm into custody because it was taken from him while he was on vacation.
Minor joined the Atlanta Police Department in 2018.
Folks was a wrestler who attended Clark Atlanta University.
A Lyft spokesperson told WSB in a statement, “Our thoughts are with Mr. Folks' loved ones as they face an unspeakable tragedy, and we have reached out to offer support during this difficult time. We will not respond to law enforcement under any circumstances.” “We are ready to support you.” “After an investigation, we have permanently banned the rider’s account from the Lyft community.”
