OCALA, Fla. (TCD) — Police recently arrested a 58-year-old man on suspicion of installing hidden cameras in the bathroom and bedroom of his ex-girlfriend's daughter.
According to a news release from the Ocala Police Department, on May 17, a mother called police after discovering there was a hidden camera in an electrical outlet in her daughter's bathroom. Officers recovered the device, which police said was blinking and aimed toward showers and toilets.
During the investigation, the mother reportedly told authorities that she had been in a relationship with John Butler and that he had also lived with them at one time.
Police responded to the home again on May 19 based on another camera found in the daughter's room. The device was reportedly disguised as a Wi-Fi repeater that Butler had reportedly installed years ago.
Detectives arrested Butler at his workplace, Butler Insurance, on suspicion of video voyeurism. The suspect agreed to speak to police for an interview, but later cited his Fifth Amendment rights when asked about the incident.
Butler was booked into the Marion County Jail on May 22.
