After three-and-a-half years of silence since the theme parks closed due to COVID-19, many Disney fans have given up all hope of a Little Mermaid Voyage at Disney's Hollywood Studios.
Finally, in December 2023, Disney announced that it would be revamping its very long-running The Little Mermaid extravagant indoor show. The original Voyage of the Little Mermaid is a hugely popular attraction featuring a classic, live retelling of the Little Mermaid story with Ariel, Flounder and all their aquatic (and land-based) friends. It was. The story was retold with memorable songs and colorful puppets.
Since December, we've heard very little about this highly anticipated reimagining, and we know very little about what Disney has planned. This week, Disney revealed exciting new details about The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure, which is scheduled to debut in the fall of 2024 at the Animation Courtyard Theater at Disney's Hollywood Studios.
In a new video posted to YouTube by Chip and Company, we see and hear a presentation from the Disney creative team to find out what their plans are for this revamped show.
As you can see and hear in the video, we now know that “The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure” will be an all-new theatrical production inspired by the classic story as seen through Ariel’s eyes.
We promise new physical sets, puppets and beautiful digital visuals to further enhance the story. The show includes all the songs from the original Voyage of the Little Mermaid as well as two new songs. “Triton’s Daughters” and “Kiss the Girl.”
The new physical set looks very impressive in the concept art released, which is essentially a collage of all of Aerial's favorite things. The show will feature a mix of live performers and digital puppets existing in a virtual space animated by the creative team. The new physical set will blend seamlessly into the digital environment. Motion capture technology will be used to enhance the animation that will be used for the epic fight sequence between Ursula, Aerial, and Eric.
These new details make us even more excited for the official release date of The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure, which is scheduled for release later this year.
